» Feature Writer Mitch McCrimmon - Does servant leadership make sense?

According to servant leadership, leaders should serve their followers as a way of fostering their loyalty and getting the most out of them. But is the servant metaphor too strong? Don't leaders have to serve their customers and shareholders first and foremost? If this is the case, then employees must be a means to that end, hence not to be served, strictly speaking. Their needs may need to be considered, but is the notion of serving not too strong? What do you think?
